Experimental Study of a Horse Antipoliomyelitic Serum
Through the kindness of Dr. W. H. Park we have been enabled to study a horse antipoliomyelitic serum. This preparation has been supplied us in three forms: citrated blood plasma, serum, and globulin concentrate. We have tested these preparations in vitro and in vivo for inactivating or neutralizing or, to use perhaps a better term, antiviral effects against a constant, potent, filtrate virus of...
متن کاملTherapeutic Experiments with Rosenow's Antipoliomyelitic Serum
Two series of experiments are described in which Rosenow's anti-poliomyelitic serum, so called, has been compared with the immune serum derived from monkeys which have convalesced or recovered from experimental poliomyelitis. The experiments consisted in introducing an active virus of polio-myelitis into the blood and of injecting the two kinds of serum into the cerebrospinal meninges according...
متن کاملReinforcement of Convalescent Antipoliomyelitic Serum in the Monkey
A comparison has been made of the neutralizing value of pooled convalescent monkey serum for the filtered virus of poliomyelitis, before and after a series of reinforcement injections of the same virus strain. The strength of the pooled convalescent serum is increased by the reinforcing procedure. The original monkey convalescent serum had a neutralization value much below that of a pooled huma...
متن کاملA Potent Antipoliomyelitic Horse Serum Concentrate and Its Experimental Use in Infected Monkeys
1. The horse, apparently itself unsusceptible to poliomyelitis, can be stimulated in certain cases but not all to the production of virucidal antibodies. 2. The virucidal potency of such immune serum can be raised to a point comparable to that of human convalescent serum and when concentrated and refined exhibits a four-fold increase in potency. 3. Such concentrates have proved effective in the...
متن کاملChaotic principle: an experimental test
The chaotic hypothesis discussed in [GC1] is tested experimentally in a simple conduction model. Besides a confirmation of the hypothesis predictions the results suggest the validity of the hypothesis in the much wider context in which, as the forcing strength grows, the attractor ceases to be an Anosov system and becomes an Axiom A attractor. A first test of the new predictions is also attempted.
